Heather Hickman
Director of Food & Beverage/Executive Chef

Heather relocated to the Mountains of Asheville in the early 90s with her family, where her fascination with food and the communal experience of dining together began. Her culinary journey formally commenced with graduation from the Wake Tech culinary program in 2009, followed by a rigorous 5000-hour apprenticeship in Durham, NC. Heather's love for cooking and delight in witnessing guests savor her creations has been a lifelong passion.

Once Heather realized she loved hospitality as a whole, she began working in hotels where Heather's career evolved significantly; starting as an Executive Chef, she transitioned to the role of Director of Food and Beverage in 2019. In this capacity, Heather adeptly leads both front and back of house operations, driven by her genuine enthusiasm for all aspects of food and beverage. She thrives on crafting memorable dining experiences for each guest she serves, always aiming to deliver exceptional service.


Heather is passionate about connecting with her community and creating authentic, memorable experiences. She is excited to be a part of The Montford Team and looks forward to the years ahead.


Joel Abshier
F&B Outlets Manager

Joel Currently Serves as The Food and Beverage Outlets Manager, where he brings his many talents to the art of hospitality within the service industry. With a career that spans roles as varied as an Alaskan salmon fisherman to a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp, Joel has accumulated more stories than most. He originally studied graphic design in college and still takes on illustration commisions, keeping his creative side thriving.

Joel has developed a reputation for excellence and a commitment to elevating guest experiences. With over 16 years of bartending experience, he combines deep industry knowledge with a passion for team leadership, creating an environment that prioritizes both quality service and innovation. Joel’s dedication to his craft and his team reflects his belief in the importance of hospitality as a cornerstone of memorable experiences.
